Salicylates
Aspirin:
Blocks transmission of pain impulses centrally and peripherally + inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
REYES Syndrome
overdose: tinnitus, difficulty hearing
Nonnarcotic analgesic antipyretic
Acetaminophen
inhibits pain in peripheral and fever in central
cannot take with mucinex, or oxycodone- will cause an overdose
Analegesic antipyretic anti inflammatory
1st class: Ibuprofen, indomethacin, Meloxicam (lithium toxicity)
2nd: Celecoxib
inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and Cox-1/ Cox-2
Caution: ace inhibitors, aspirin, anticoags
low purine diet
Miotic agents
Coclchicine
inhibits WBC from going into cells with urate crystals
- grape fruit juice, numbness, muscle pain/weakness
uricosuric agents
allopurinol
reduces serum uric acid levels
- drink fluids, avoid alc, take with meals
ACE inhibitor
Captopril- end in pril
increased risk of cough, hyperkalemia, and angioedema + risk to baby during pregnancy
take bp and hr before giving
increases concentration of lithium and digoxin
ARB
Losartan- all end in sartan
blocks angiotensin II from constriction
used for hypertension- check for preg
calcium channel blocker
Amlodipine
blocks calcium vessels which increases vasodilation
decrease myocardial oxygen concsumption
dont take w st johns wart or grape juice
dont stop meds abruptly
Beta Blockers
Propranolol
Diuretics
Nitroprusside
Direct vasodilator
Hydralazine
