What is interdependence?
What happens in one place increasingly has impacts on other places
It’s the theory that nations depend on each other. Most countries are dependent and would struggle without other countries.
What are the different forms of interdependency?
Economic
Political
Social
Environmental
What is economic interdependence?
Globalisation has led to increased migration mostly for work. Some sectors of Uk depend on Eastern Europe for migrant working.
What’s is political interdependence?
Stops political feuds e.g two counties with McDonald’s will never wage war because their economies are linked. Friedman argues
What is social interdependence?
Migrant increases means there are social ties between two countries as they are family
What’s is environmental interdependence?
All states are environmentally dependent to some extent because of the shared global commons
What are the benefits of flows of labour?
Remittances can be sent home from people working in other countries
Economic migrants benefit host country if they pay taxes
Migrants get a better standard of living
Give an example of a country which relied too much on remittance?
Somalia

IMF and the world bank reinforce the unequal powers e.g giving out loans a wrongly
WTO has widened the gap between rich and poor as it has high import duties protection of HIc farming and developing countries are not well presented
How does unequal power relations affect trade?

LICs may lower taxes reduce tariffs and more to encourage investment-> bad impacts on economy
TNCs can influence trade by creating sanctions with other countries
What is the World Trade Organisation?
The Groundnut- Senegal and the World Bank
The Brazilian nut- Bolivia and the EU and WTO
The cashew nut- Mozambique and IMF
The American Peanut
