3.2 study guide Flashcards
What are the trophic levels?
Producer, primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary
What is an autotroph?
producers, self-feeding, create their own food
What is a heterotroph?
Eats other plants, animals, or matter
Herbivore
Omnivore
Carnivore
Detritivor
Only eats plants
Eats plants and animals
Eats animals
Decomposers
What does the pyramid of biomass show?
Shows how much mass and matter is passed down
Whats the pyramid of numbers?
Shows how many of each animal and how much energy is passed down
Whats the pyramid of energy show?
It shows how energy is used and where it goes
What is the rule of 10?
Only about 10% of each levels energy is passed down to the next level
Why is it more efficient to eat at a lower trophic level?
You are eating from a level that has more energy to begin with, it is passed down more directly to you
How is energy transferred in an ecosystem?
By being eating/eating other animals, plants, and matter
