3.2 Blood circulatory system Flashcards
What does the human blood circulatory system involve?
Circulation of blood which is pumped from an organ known as the heart
Specialized blood vessels named
arteries , capillaries and veins
the heart has how many chambers ?
four chambers
what do the four chambers of the heart consist of ?
two ventricles
two atria
what is the most important organ in the blood circulatory system?
the heart
Where is the heart locatead?
in between the lungs
the heart is a muscular organ made up of ?
cardic muscle , connective tissue and blood vessels
Function of the heart?
to pump blood and oxygen around the body and deliver waste products (carbon dioxide) back to the lungs to be removed.
Function of aorta ?
carries blood throughout the whole body
State the three types of valve
semilunar valve
biscuspid valve
tricuspid valve
What are the functions of the right atrium ?
Deoxygenated blood from the whole body enters except the lungs
when right atrium contracts, deoxygenated blood is forced to flow into the chamber below , right ventricle
Function of tricuspid valve
allows the flow of blood in only one direction from the right atrium to the right ventricle
Function of the right ventricle
when contracts , deoxygenated blood is forced to flow out into the pulmonary artery to be carried to the lungs
Function of pulmonary artery
to carry blood from lungs to heart
What does septum do
separate the left and right side of the heart
Function of septum
prevent oxygenated blood from mixing with deoxygenated blood
Function of left atrium
Oxygenated blood from lungs enters through pulmanory vein
when left atrium contracts , oxygenated blood is forced to flow into the chamber below it , left ventricle
Function of left ventricle
when contracts , oxygenated blood is forced to flow out into the aorta to be carried to all parts of the body except the lungs
What is the function of the vein
transport deoxygenated blood to the heart from the whole body except the lungs
pulmonary vein transport oxygenated blood from lungs to heart
Circulation of blood for the veins
Slow blood flow under low pressure
No pulse
Function of capillary
allows the exchange of gases, food and waste products between the blood and body cells via diffusion through the thin wall of the capillary
Circulation of blood for capillary
slow blood flow under decreasing blood pressure
no pulse
Functions of the artery
transport oxygenated blood from the heart to the whole body except the lungs
pulmonary artery transport deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
Factors that influence the pulse rate
gender
age
body health
