3.2 Flashcards
In __________ of “The Confessions,” we see Saint Augustine reflecting on the gap year when he
was 16 years old and had to stop his studies since his father was still coming up with the funds to send
him to Carthage. He gives us a glimpse of his sinful adolescent years and his analysis of two of his
sins during that time – sexual escapades and stealing pears. Even if he was “arrogant and depressed, weary and restless,” he continued with his futile and sinful lifestyle that led him further away from
God (St. Augustine, 1959, pp. 27-28).

not had himself baptized.
