3.11 Ice and Rain Flashcards
Cowl Icing Definition
Icing Conditions exist when the OAT (on the ground and for takeoff) or TAT (inflight) is 10°C or below, and:
Visible moisture in any form (such as clouds, fog with visibility of one mile or less, mist, rain, snow, sleet or ice crystals) is present in flight or below 400 FT AGL for ground operations or
When operating on surfaces that are wet or contaminated
Wing Icing Definition
Icing Conditions exist when the OAT (takeoff) is 5°C or TAT (inflight) is 10°C or below, and:
Visibile moisture in any form (such as clouds, fog with visibility of one mile or less, mist, rain, snow, sleet or ice crystals) is present in flight or below 400 AGL for takeoff or
The runway is wet or contaminated
Cowl Anti-Ice must be ON for:
all ground and flight operations when icing conditions exist or ICE is annunciated by the ice detection system except with the inflight SAT is -40°C or below
Wing Anti-Ice must be ON for
takeoff and flight operations with ICE is annunciated by the ice detection system, or when icgin conditions exist and the airspeed is less than 230 KIAS except when the inflight SAT is -40°C OR BELOW
Wing anti-ice must be ON______ CRJ 200 only
for the final two minutes prior to takeoff during all ground operations 5°C OAT or below unless Type IV anti-icing fluid has been applied
