Viscosity
Resistance of a fluid (liquid or gas) to a change in shape, or movement of neighboring portions relative to one another. Viscosity is a measure of how a fluid flows.

Archimede’s Principle
The buoyant force acting on an object equals the weight (force of gravity) of the fluid displaced by the object.

Plimsoll Line- which shows how heavily a ship can be loaded in different water conditions.
Compressibility
Extent to which a substance (solid, liquid, or gas) can be squeezed by pressure. Gasses ARE compressible because their particles can be squeezed close together into a smaller volume. But because the space between the particles is already so small, liquids and solids are considered incompressible.
Pascal’s Law & Formula
Pressure measures the amount of force applied to a certain area.
Pressure is exerted in all directions.
The larger the force, greater pressure
The smaller the force, greater pressure
This principle is used to describe the hydraulic system.
In a fluid at rest in a closed container, a pressure change in one part is transmitted without loss to every portion of the fluid and to the walls of the container.
FORMULA For Pascal’s Law
P1 = P2 (Pressure 1 = Pressure 2)
Calculation of Pressure = F1 divide A1(Force divide by Area)
Pressure and Depth
The deeper you go into a liquid or gas, the greater the pressure on you from the surrounding fluid will be.

Hydraulics- is the study of pressure in liquids.

A mixture of two or more immiscible (unblendable) liquids.
Valves
Valves are devices that regulate the flow of fluids.
Today’s valves can control not only the flow, but the: rate, volume, pressure, or direction of liquids, gasses, slurries or dry materials through a pipeline, chute or similar passageway.
Submersible
A deep diving submarine used to explore the ocean. Usually smaller than normal submarines.
