3 Types of Intestinal Ischemia Flashcards
Name the 3 kinds of Ischemia.
Acute Mesenteric, Chronic Mesenteric (think angina), Colon ischemia.
What two areas of the colon are most predisposed to ischemia?
Splenic flexure and Rectosigmoid junction. These areas are the very outer limits of blood coverage. Known as watershed areas that suffer during hypoperfusion.
What 3 arteries supply colon?
Which is most likely to be occluded by a plaque embolus?
SMA, IMA, Internal iliac.
SMA comes off the aorta at a narrow angle and is predisposed to be occluded.
Pain after eating in Chronic Mesenteric ischemia leads to what…
Food aversion.
What is the gold standard of diagnosis?
CT angiography with high resolution scan of the abdomen.
