- It keeps formal accounts of Financial transactions to keep track of money coming in and out
- Its output is a detailed account of monetary funds.
What is a legacy system and why is it never replaced
- This is an existing system that has been used for many years
- Replacing it would be expensive
- Replacing it would be disruptive
- The new system would not improve the current system

- This system runs the businesses administration processes which do not deal directly with customers
- e.g. Producing statements and updating stock records in a bank.

This system controls the storage and retrieval of documents

This allowed business to collect, update and maintain all its customer data in one centralised location.
Decision support systems
- This converts raw data into information that can be used to make high quality decisions
- This is used in hospitals to help doctors make smart judgments
E-Commerce systems
Removes the possibility of double booking and means fewer staff is needed.
