23
Q

Light Palpation

A

distinguish coins, hair (length) and human bone

24
Q

Light layered palpation

A

back of hand more sensitive to temp
hydration
note texture, moisture and thickness
slide finger tips checking for drag
locate veins
locate radial artery
increase force and not shearing force in subcutaneous tissues
palpate tendons of ring finger, have pt flex and extend
palpate prox and middle joints of ring finger

25
Q

Mod/deep layered palpation

A

dorsal forearm and palmar surfaces
-note which is smoother, warmer, thickness
2nd layer - slightly firm touch, move in all directions
-note thickness, looseness and how easily it moves
increase pressure to feel deep fascial layer
-identify layers of muscle
-note if soft and compliant, elastic and direction muscle fibers run
have pt open and close hand
palpate distally to feel tendon

26
Q

palpation of paravertebral tissues

A

locate C7 - flex forward, most prominent
Locate T1, 2, 3, 4
Slide fingers off inferiorly to feel interspinous ligaments
flex head of pt and note changes in tension
lightly palpate and compress the paravertebral soft tissue form cervical spine to lumbar spine
Contact spinous process and moves laterally to transverse process
apply loading and springing force on transverse process inducing segmental rotation in prone and seated position
pressing on right TP induces rotation to L
Note presence of hard end feel or not
