3 PM Processes Flashcards
Process
… is a set of interrelated actions and activities performed to
create a pre-specified product, service, or result.
Each process is characterized by
- inputs,
- tools and techniques that can be applie and
- resulting outputs
Inputs are always
- organizational process assets (as guidelines and criteria)
- enterprise environmental factors (as constraints for options)
Initiating
= Start
- PM determines if business case can be met
- PM does high-level planning to verify that the project can be completed within the given constraints
=> the project is officially approved
Define a new project or phase by obtaining authorization for start
Steps of the project management process
- Initiating
- Planning
- Executing
- Monitoring & Controlling
- Closing
Planning
= Plan
- PM creates detailed plan for how planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing the project will be done
Establish the scope of the project,
Refine the objectives,
Define the course of action required to obtain the project objectives
Executing
= Do
- project team completes the work according to the processes and procedures detailed in the project management plan
Complete the work defined in the project management plan
Monitoring & Controlling
= Check & Act
- PM takes the work results (work performance data) and compares them to the baselines in the project management plan
- change requests are evaluated to determine the impact on the project, identify best options and decide approval or rejecting
- if approved change request does not affect the baseline:
Change is implemented by the project team
-If approved change request affects the baseline and project management plan:
Replanning and updating of baselines (for monitoring & controlling the project work) and plan (for executing the project work)
- If major deviations from the baselines occur and the project is analyzed if it should continue at all, this decision is taken in re-opened initiating
Track, review and regulate the progress and performance of the project,
Identify areas in which changes to the plan are required,
Initiate changes
Closing
= End
- project work is done
- project is terminated
Finalize all activities to formally close the project or phase
