3. Image Receptors & Processing Flashcards
1
Q
Overview of image processing:
A
- Emittion of x-ray photons
- differential absorption
- differential exposure
- latent image is produced
- processing (chemical or digital)
2
Q
Types of image receptors for xrays
A
- non-digital e.g. film
- digital-indirect e.g. PSP plates
- digital-direct e.g. CCD/CMOS sensors
3
Q
Components of an xray film packet.
A
- film
- black paper on both sides of film
- lead foil
4
Q
What is the purpose of the black paper?
A
prevents light penetration
5
Q
What is the purpose of the lead foil?
A
- Shields film from backscatter radiation
- which creates fog & reduces contrast - reduces px exposure by absorbing residual xray beam
6
Q
Components of an xray film?
A
layers:
1. base - provides support
2. emulsion - active layer of silver halide crystals
3. overcoat - provides protection
7
Q
what are the 2 grain types that emulsion exists as?
A
- globular grain
- rounder crystals
- ‘ultra-speed film’/d-speed - tabular grain
- crystals are narrower, more cross sectional area
- ‘insight film’/F-speed
- less radiation required
- thus, processes faster
