What is a Svensen gauge?
Measures thickness of restoration or depth of preparation
How are custom provisional crowns made?
- impression of tooth prior to prep (putty ideal)
- cut prep
- fill impression with Protemp and seat on tooth
- check restoration then bond to tooth using TempBond
What is the importance of the emergence profile of restorations?
Sufficient emergence profile applies pressure inter proximally to contour gingivae
What are the different types of preformed provisional crowns?
- tooth coloured
- metal
Describe polycarbonate preformed crowns.
- plastic tooth coloured crowns
- come in may shades and morphologies
- plastic tab to grip that can be filed off after placed
What are the problems with preformed provisional crowns?
- unlikely have adequate fit
- large variety of crowns required (expensive)
What can be used to remove an old crown?
- WAMkey
- Safe relax
- Sliding hammer
What is an essix?
Acrylic stent with composite Pontic to replace missing tooth
What advice should be given to patients with provisional restorations?
- maintain good OH
- brush 2-3x
- interdental 2x
- caution with floss as may remove restoration
