First Past the Post
An electoral system where the person with the most number of votes is elected
Additional Member System (AMS)
A hybrid electoral system that makes the voter make two choices. The voter first selects a representative on a simple plurality system then a second vote is apportioned to a party list for a second representative
Single Transferable Vote (STV)
This system allows the voter to rank their voting preferences in numerical order rather than simply having one voting choice
Supplementary Vote (SV)
A majoritarian system where the voter makes two choices to elect a representative
Safe seat
A seat that is won by the same political party from election to election, they are immune from swings in voting choice
Marginal seat
A seat held by a political party with a small majority where they are prone to swings in voting choice, they are crucial in deciding the outcome of an election
