What are the three categories of injuries?
Acute, Chronic, Overuse
What characterizes acute injuries?
They occur quickly, with immediate pain and loss of function.
What are the two types of hard tissue injuries?
Fractures and Dislocation (full); Subluxation (partial)
What are the signs and symptoms of dislocation and fracture?
Pain, swelling, tenderness
How do chronic injuries develop?
They start as acute injuries and recur due to re-injury, prolonged weakness, or poor rehabilitation.
What is a direct injury?
An injury caused by an external force, such as collisions between players or direct contact with equipment.
Example: Bruise
What is an indirect injury?
An injury caused by internal force, such as overstretching connective tissue.
What are the types of soft tissue injuries?
Sprain (excessive movement), Strain (overstretching), Contusion (bruise or haematoma), Open wound (cut, abrasion, laceration).
Example: Direct blow from a collision with a player or equipment
