3. Chem Thermo. Basic Concepts Flashcards
What is the difference between extensive and intensive properties?
Extensive is dependent of mass and intensive is independent of mass.
How many properties needed to define a state of system?
2
-measured or deduced
-intensive or extensive
What do you do to the pressure to boil water at 26 degree celcius?
Reduce the pressure
Is boiling point intensive or extensive properties?
Intensive
What does state function only concern about?
Final value ( eg change in temperature, PE, U)
What does path function takes into account
How to get to the final state (e.g W,Q)
Describe the relationship between pressure and temperature
Describe the relationship between flow and pressure/ tempt
When a liquid flows through a pipe from tank terminal to process plant, due to the frictional loss, the pressure of the liquid gradually decreases.
What is the boiling point of water?
The boiling point of water is 100 °C at atmospheric pressure, i.e. 1 atm.
How does water hand boiler works?
- when grabbing, warmth of the hand heat the volatile liquid causing it to evaporate
- higher vapour pressure will push the liquid upward to the top sphere
