Q

Categories based on morphology and physiology

A

Dilated - dilation and abnormal contraction of one or both ventricles, cause:idiopathic /genetic
abnormal contractility, systolic dysfunction

Hypertrophic - hypertrophy of LV, cause: genetic, hypertrophy
abnormal compliance, diastolic dysfunction

Restrictive - non-dilated ventricles, cause: myocardial fibrosis
abnormal compliance, diastolic dysfunction

Q

Dilated cardiomyopathy

A

Spectrum of heterozygous myocardial disorders that are characterized by ventricular dilation and decrease in cardiac output

Pathogenesis of HF related to DCM

  1. Ischemic - caused by ischemic heart disease
  2. Non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (DCM)
