16
Q

Rescue Litter (Stokes Litter)

A

Not romeo compatible, doesn’t fit

17
Q

Rescue Strop

A

primarily designed for uninjured personnel

inherently buoyant, closed cell foam, orange cover, accommodates 1 survivor

18
Q

Double Rescue Hook (DRH)

A

WE DO NOT USE IT ANYMORE
big hook - 3,000 pounds - personnel, cargo, etc
small hook - 1,000 pounds - NO PERSONNEL, only lightweight stuff like mail
Equipment ring - 1,500 pounds - light equipment and mail only

19
Q

Quick Strop

A

The quick strop is authorized for use only in conjunction with the TRI-SAR harness. It SHALL NOT be used with any other RS harness.
Provides a quick and safe means of hoisting uninjured personnel
Security of a full-body harness with the comfort of a seat harness
Minimum buoyancy of 35 pounds

20
Q

Direct Deployment System

A

2 Components: TRI-SAR Harness and quick strop

21
Q

AN/PRC-149 Radio Set

A

PRC-149 radio set is a personal noncombat emergency communication radio and emergency location beacon transmitter.

22
Q

Med Kits

A

The Level “A” SAR med kit is designed for all units that maintain SAR capable helicopters. The Level “B” med kit is used in conjunction with the Level “A” med kit for all units that maintain SAR-capable helicopters that may utilize SAR hospital corpsmen.

23
Q

SAR Coordinator

A

The Rescue Coordination Centers (RCCs), which are established worldwide by geographic location, handle the function of the SAR coordinator and, if not directly involved in the search operation, SHALL be informed and kept abreast of the progress of the search.

24
Q

SAR Mission Coordinator

A

SMC - typically assigned by the SAR Coordinator, but in the case of a military search the OTC or unit designated by the OTC shall assume the duties of SMC

25
Q

On-Scene Commander

A

Designated by the SMC. Generally, the first search unit to arrive on scene or the unit with the best capability is designated OSC.

26
Q

Search Execution

A

The SMC and OSC shall designate the search area for the individual units, shall assign search altitude, search pattern, and track spacing, and will detail communication procedures

27
Q

Marking Survivor Position - Warnings

A

Should fuel be evident or suspected in the water, smoke flares should not be used. The flares may ignite the fuel

When deploying a marking device from an aircraft, use caution not to strike the survivor

Avoid dropping smoke flares directly upwind of the survivor as the fumes are caustic, and may injure the survivor

28
Q

Multiple Rescue Decision

A

The crew should consider either recovery or short-hauling the RS between multiple survivors if the following conditions exist:

  1. A sea state of greater than 2
  2. Night/IMC
  3. More than 25 yards between the survivors
29
Q

Rescue Swimmer Deployment

A

RS shall enter the water and assist the survivor in all cases except when the HAC determines that the circumstances will endanger the RS unnecessarily.

RS shall be deployed by jumping (10/10 or 15/0) or via the rescue hoist
WARNINGS
DD procedures shall not be used if the survivor still has a parachute attached.
RS shall be deployed via the rescue hoist during all night and IMC/low vis operations, if any other hazard exists in the vicinity, and/or at the discretion of the HAC

30
Q

Direct Deployment

A

DD was developed as a tool for use in extreme situations, such as: rescues in the surf zone, heavy seas, high winds, moving (swift) water, ice, etc.
WARNING
1.Quick Strop shall only be used in conjunction with the TRI-SAR for DD. Use of DD on a survivor with known or suspected head, neck, spinal, or other severe injury should only be exercised when the use of tradition survivor recovery procedures would place the lives of the RS and/or survivor at greater risk
2. DD procedures should not be used on aviators who have ejected, and SHALL not be used on aviators still entangled in a parachute.
3. QS shall not be deployed to survivors without the RS, survivors may not know how to wear it.
NOTE
1. Direct Deployment always refers to the RS wearing a TRI-SAR in conjunction with the QS. RS never unhooks from the rescue hook during the entire rescue evolution.
The RS should be placed in the water no farther than 2–3 feet from the survivor. This can be accomplished by stopping the RS approximately 10 feet above the water, and as the RS hand signals the HO, the HO directs the HAC into the precise position required.

31
Q

Collapsible Rescue Basket (McCauley Basket)

A

The collapsible rescue basket is the preferred rescue device for survivors (military and civilian) with
injuries that do not require a litter, frail/elderly survivors, and small framed survivors who can not be safely secured in the rescue strop.

32
Q

Rescue Seat

A

Rescue seat is designed for use in the maritime or overland environment and is primarily used for self-recovery of aviators without the assistance of an RS

33
Q

Helicopter Life Raft Deployment

A

Life rafts carried by Navy helicopters are designed and intended for use by the helicopter crew and passengers in case of helicopter ditching at sea. Not specifically designed for deployment in SAR scenarios.
