These precautions are used for clients known or suspected to have serious illnesses easily transmitted by direct client contact or by contact with items in the client’s environment i.e. gastrointestinal, respiratory, skin, or wound infections of colonization with multi-drug resistant bacteria
Contact precautions
Clients that are highly susceptible to infection.
Examples: clients with leukemia, extensive skin repairment such as severe dermatitis or major burns that cannot be effectively covered with dressings
Compromised clients
Day to day disinfection of articles used by infected patients who are in isolation
Concurrent disinfection
Freedom from infection or infectious material
Asepsis
insufficient fluid in the body
Dehydration
Expulsion of feces from rectum and anus
Defecation
Profuse sweating
Diaphoresis
