Stewardship
- The management and care of something —> planet earth
- each person is a temporary caretaker of the earth
- they must be aware of and manage their impact on the earth and its resources
Carbon footprint
- a carbon footprint is a measure of how each persons activities effect the environment
- it measures the greenhouse gases produced
- measure units = carbon dioxide (Co2)
- two types are primary and secondary carbon footprints
Three R’s
Reduce , reuse , recycle (repair)

International agreements
Kyoto protocol
Cop15 copenhagen un climate change conference (2009)
Kyoto protocol
- negotiated in December 1997
- agreement for countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Ireland signed in 2002 (all eu countries signed)
- shows that undeveloped countries are willing to make changes to protect the worlds climate
Copenhagen accord
- December 2009
- world leaders meet to discuss climate change
- accord states that climate change is an on going problem and countries must make a conscience effort to keep temperature increase to 2 degrees
- results were disappointing as accord was not agreed by all countries
European Union
The EU is aware of how important protecting our environment is so they :
- pass laws to protect the environment
- provide grants for various environmental projects
- organise conferences and meetings
- set up European Enivronmetal Protection Agency
- set up Change Campaign

Using animals for medical experiments
Housing them in very bad conditions while breeding or transporting them to provide food for humans
Cosmetics testing on animals

Caring for animals that are pets or on farms and are looking after them
Making sure they don’t suffer
Extinction happens when:
Animals are recognised as pests or are feared in some way
They are hunted , poached or collected for research
Disease strikes
Habitats destroyed
