2nd semester exam review Flashcards
portfolio
the group of assets - such as stock, bonds and mutual - held by an investor
shares
a part of a corporation that you invest in
shareholder
a person who owns stock
price per share
the amount of money for one share
variable
letter that represents a number
coefficient
number in front of a variable
experimental probability
the amount of times something happens if you actually do it. the longer you do the experiment, the closer it will be to the theoretical probability.
theoretical probability
the number of outcomes using the mathematical way, not actually testing it.
prism
a 3D solid figure with two bases that are congruent and parallel.
pyramid
a 3D solid figure with one base and sides that meet at a point
face
the sides of a geometric solid
base
on a pyramid, the base is opposite of the point. on a prism, the base is on off the congruent sides.
simplify
writing the expression in its most simple and compact form
term
a single mathematical expression
like terms
terms that have the same variables and the same exponents (any numbers/constants are considered like terms)
constant
any number
height of the prism
the distance between the two bases
radius
straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle
diameter
straight line passing from side to side through the center of a circle
circumference
the distance around a circle
pi
3.14
sample space
the set of all possible outcomes in an experiment
event
some specific outcome of an experiment
probability
a number between 0 and 1 inclusive that represents the extent of an event happening. an event that cannot occur has a probability equal to 0. the probability of an event that is certain to occur has a probability equal to 1.
certainty
an event that is definitely going to take place.
expresssion
no equals sign
equation
has an equals sign
evaluate
to evaluate an expression, you substitute the given value for the variable using parenthesis and then follow the order of operations. the answer will be a single numerical answer.
solve
to solve an equation, isolate the variable by undoing the operations that are being done to it. the answer will be a variable (a numerical answer (usually, but not always) that, when substituted would make the equation true.
lateral sides
sides of a prism or pyramid
