What is the normal operating procedure for chemical fire extinguisher?
• Twist pin and remove breaking seal in the process
• Pull ring pin from lever and handle
• Hold extinguisher upright with hand under handle and thumb on top of lever, squeeze the lever downward with thumb
• Test burst fire extinguisher
• From a distance of 2 to 3 meters (where possible), aim the nozzle at the base of the fire source
• Squeeze the lever downward with thumb
• The amount of extinguishing agent required will depend on the severity of the fire.
What is the discharge time of the chemical fire extinguisher?
8-10 seconds
When would you use a water (H2O) fire extinguisher?
Class A and lithium battery fire
What is the pre-flight check on the water fire extinguisher?
• Present
• Safety wire and seal on the handle are intact
What is the normal operating procedure of the water fire extinguisher, and how long does it take to discharge the whole bottle?
• Turn handle clockwise as far as possible (charging bottle with CO2) breaking safety wire and seal in the process
• Hold bottle upright
• Direct nozzle at base of fire
• Press trigger to discharge
• Sweep in a side to side motion.
Note: The bottle will be emptied in 45 seconds.
What is important to remember, if using the chemical fire extinguisher in flight deck?
If a chemical fire extinguisher is to be discharged on the flight deck, all crew members on the flight deck shall put on oxygen masks and use 100% oxygen with emergency selected (overpressure).
