INFLAMMATION

A
  • Heat caused by the increased blood flow as white blood cells are travelling to the site of infection.
  • Swelling increases blood and fluid in the area as white blood cells kill pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Swelling also localises infection
  • Redness due to increased blood flow and permeability of the capillaries

FEVER

A
  • Core body temperature is reset to be greater than 37.2 degrees and the higher temperature kills pathogenic microorganisms.
  • The increased temperature also triggers T cells which helps speed up the body’s reactions and help repair damaged cells and tissue.

  • They flow freely in the blood and can quickly reach the site of an invasion where they can react directly with antigens Trigger inflammation.
  • Coat intruders so that eater cells are more likely to devour them
  • Kill intruders
