INFLAMMATION
A
- Heat caused by the increased blood flow as white blood cells are travelling to the site of infection.
- Swelling increases blood and fluid in the area as white blood cells kill pathogenic microorganisms.
- Swelling also localises infection
- Redness due to increased blood flow and permeability of the capillaries

FEVER
A
- Core body temperature is reset to be greater than 37.2 degrees and the higher temperature kills pathogenic microorganisms.
- The increased temperature also triggers T cells which helps speed up the body’s reactions and help repair damaged cells and tissue.

PHAGOCYTOSIS
A
- White blood cells “eat bacteria, viruses and dead/injured body cells.

PROTECTIVE PROTEINS
A
- Complement System
- They flow freely in the blood and can quickly reach the site of an invasion where they can react directly with antigens Trigger inflammation.
- Coat intruders so that eater cells are more likely to devour them
- Kill intruders
