2nd Lecture Heart Pathology Flashcards
What is aka escape rhythm
Junctional rhythm
Junction all rhythm
AV junction becomes primary pacemaker
Aka escape rhythm
What is the anatomical issue related to heart blocks
AC node issue
First degree heart block
- Impulse begins at SA node
But signs delayed on way to AV node - Or conduction from the AV is delayed
2nd degree AV block, type 1
PRI is prolonged long enough until one signal does not get through
Difference between first vs second degree heart block type 1 and 2?
1st is just prolonged PRI, due to SA to AV, or to AV conduction prolongation
2nd type 1 is progressively prolonging PRI, until one is completely blocked
2nd type 2 is one impulse is completely blocked intermittently, without progressive PRI increase
2nd degree AV block, type 2
One impulse is blocked to the ventricle intermittently.
There is no PRI progression
3rd degree AV block
Complete heart block
No communication between atria and ventricles
Both atria and ventricles act independently
No impulses from SA node is conducted through the AV node
List the types of AV heart blocks
- 1st degree
- 2nd degree type 1
- 2nd degree type 2
- 3rd degree
3rd degree is like a bad divorce. What relationship does p wave have to QRS?
3rd degree AV heart block
P wave and QRS have no relationship
PVC stands for
Premature Ventricular Complex
Not to be confused with PAC
PVC
Ectopic focus from a ventricle
Ventricle depolarizes before SA node fires
PVC has 5 descriptive terms
Bigeminy
Trigeminy
Couplet
Univocal
Multifocal
Bigeminy PVC
Every other beat is PVC
One normal QRS in between
Trigeminy PVC
Every third beat is PVC
Two normal QRS in between
