2nd 9wks Vocab #2 Flashcards
Positive slope
When a line rises from left to right when graphed
Slope
The measure of the steepness of a line, a constant rate of change
Negative slope
When a line falls from left to right when graphed
Undefined slope
The slope of a vertical line,0, in the denominator of a formula
0 slope
The slope of a horizontal line,0, in the numerator of a formula
Parallel lines
Two lines that never intersect when drawn, lines that have the same slope but a different y-intercept in their equation
Perpendicular lines
Two lines that meet and form 4 right angles when drawn, the product of their slopes is -1 in their equation
Point slope form
Y-y1=m(x-x1)
Slope intercept form
Y=mx+b
Standard form
Ax+By=c (No fractions or decimals)
System of equations
Two or more equations being solved siamotainously
No solution
Means that there are no values to make the original problem true
Infinitely many
Means a system is the same line and shares every ordered pair on the line
Half-plane
The area that’s formed when a line is graphed on the coordinate plane
Standard form
The normal way to write a number
Exponential form
A number written as a base raised to a power
Base
The number or term being multiplied against itself
Power/exponent
A subscript that tells you how many times to multiply the base
Rational number
Can be written as a fraction, when it comes to radicles, the radicle symbol disappears when you find the root
Irrational number
Can’t be written as a fraction, when it comes to radicles, the radicle symbol is still in the simplified form of the root.
Prime factorization
To break a number into its prime factors written in multiplication
Expanded form
To spread out a number or term as a product of its factors
X-intercept
When a graph crosses the x axis
Y-intercept
When a graph crosses the y axis
