Forced Migration
Permanent movement compelled by cultural or environmental factors
Push Factor
A factor that induced people to move out of their present location
Voluntary Migration
Permanent movement undertaken by choice
Pull Factor
A factor that induced people to move to a new location
Refugee
Someone forced to migrate due to fear of persecution because of race, religion, etc.
Internally Displaced Person (IDP)
Someone forced to migrate for similar political reasons as a refugee, but has not crossed an international border
Asylum Seeker
Someone migrating to another country to be recognized as a refugee
Intervening Obstacle
An environmental or cultural feature on a landscape that hinders migration
