Zero hour contract
a type of employment contract in which an employer does not guarantee a minimum number of hours of work to an employee. Instead, the employee is only paid for the hours they actually work, and the employer can offer or withdraw work opportunities at any time.
On the job training
a form of training provided at the workplace. During the training, employees are familiarized with the working environment they will become part of.
Absenteeism
the proportion of employees not at work on a given day.
Flexible working hours
describes a range of employment options designed to help employees balance work and home life.
Internal recruitment
the process of filling job vacancies within a company by exclusively considering current employees
Job sharing
a form of flexible working which enables two employees to voluntarily share the responsibilities and duties of one full-time job
Induction training
Training aimed at introducing new employees to a business and its procedures.
Labour productivity
the measure of how much output is produced per unit of labour input, for instance, per worker.
Workforce plan
deciding how many and what types of workers are required.
Redundancy
an employee’s job is no longer needed or the employer needs to reduce their workforce.
Labour turnover
the rate at which employees leave an organization and are replaced by new employees in a given time
Job analysis
The process that identifies and determines in detail the particular duties and requirements of the job, and also what the position requires in terms of aptitudes, knowledge, and skills.
Person specification
a description of the qualifications, skills, experience, knowledge and other attributes (selection criteria) which a candidate must possess to perform the job duties.
Hot desking
the practice of not assigning employees their own individual desk, but instead allowing them to work at any available workstation.
360 appraisal
a way to solicit feedback from an employee’s supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates. It is used to give employees feedback on how others perceive their strengths and weaknesses and to help employees learn how to work better with other employees.
