2.6 Resistors Flashcards
What is a ‘resistor in series’?
Resistors directly alongside one another.
What is a variable resistor?
A resistor used in circuits where the resistance may need to be changed.
What is a preset?
Preset is used where the value of the resistor can be set before the circuit is housed in a casing. A type of ‘mini’ variable resistor.
What is a LDR?
Light Dependent Resistor. A resistor whose value changes with light levels.
What is a thermistor?
A resistor whose value changes with temperature.
What are resistors used for?
Resistors are used to control/restrict the flow of current in circuits. As a result, one of their functions is to protect delicate components. The resistance of any material is a measure of its ability to conduct electrical current.
What is resistance measured in?
Resistance (R) is measured in Ohms (Ω).
What does the fourth band on a resistor represent?
The fourth band is the tolerance band (show how accurate the resistor is)
What does the colour of the 1st & 2nd band represent?
The number
What does the colour of the band on the 3rd band represent?
The number of 0’s
