How does a business recruit people?
- Must be fair, legal and ethical
- Must follow Equality act 2010

What are the 4 main documents that are used for recruitment?
- The person specification
- Job description
- The Application form

What is the person specification?
The type of person required for the role. Included qualifications + work experience + any personal attributes
What is the job description?
The job itself. Includes duties+responsibilities of the person doing the job
What essential info do job description contain?
- Title ( title of job +level of responsibility)
- Department (what team they would work for)
- Terms of employment( what the job will involve + salary band + hours)
- Responsibilities( what they would do on a day to day basis)
- Responsible to ( the person who would be their manager)
- Written by and due date
What requirements do person specifications have?
- Essential Requirements ( things that the candidate must have or else they will not be considered for the role)
- Desirable Requirements ( things candidate may not have, but may be helpful when fulfilling the role)
What do person specifications include?
- Qualifications
- Experience
- Knowledge and understanding
- Skills
- Character attributes
Why are application forms useful?
- They make applicants fill in the same info that is needed to choose between them
What is a curriculum vitae (CV)?
- Document that lists a person’s experience and qualifications
- Helps employer have an overview of qualifications
- May encourage more people to apply
What are the 2 types of recruitment methods?
- Internal recruitment= when a role is only advertised to the business’s existing employees
- External recruitments= when a role is advertised to potential applicants both inside and outside the business
What are the advantages of internal recruitment?
- Fast recruitment
- Easy to advertise
- Cheaper than advertising externally
- Could offer promotion jobs for employees
- All candidates already know the business
What are the disadvantages of internal recruitment?
- Limited choice of applicants
- May cause problems among existing employees
- Unlikely to bring any new ideas
- Business will need to recruit another employee anyway

- Higher number of potential candidates
- May bring new skill into business
- May bring new ideas into business
What are the disadvantages of external recruitment?
- May take a long time to find the right candidate
- Can be expensive
- Candidate May turn out not to be as good as they seemed at the interview

- Informal training is less structures, deceived by a colleague

What is self-learning?
When a person teaches themselves without being supervised. Done by reading watching videos etc
Can increase skill + gain additional knowledge
What is ongoing training?
- Training employees continue to do throughout their time in that role
- Ensures everyone stays up to date
- Business likely to have higher levels of productivity
What are performance reviews and target setting?
- Meetings that managers have with their employees to discuss the employees performance in their role
- Some employees set their own target depending on what they have to do
Why do business train and develop employees?
- Is to obey legislation= the laws that the country must comply with
- Enable employees to do their job well
- Show employees that business values them
- Identify any gals in ways roles are being performed
- Ensure employees are up to date with changes in the Industry
- Helps them motivate their employees
What happens if an employee is motivated?
- More likely to work hard and stay with the company
- More likely to be retained= keep something or someone
How does technology affect training?
- Tech is constantly changing
- Staff need to be trained to use the new tech
- Helps business adopt to the latest changes of tech
What is motivation?
Employees reason to work hard
Benefit of highly motivated employees?
- Employee attendance at work is higher, stress=reduced
- Reputation of the business improves coz employees will be proud + tell other people abt it
- Employees productivity and work output during the day is higher so costs are lower coz business needs to pay less overtime
- Employees stay at business for a longer time+helps avoid cost of having to work overtime
- More ideas for improving the business
- Communicate better with each other + complete their tasks efficiently
- Business more likely to make higher profits
