what does being ethical mean?
Being ethical means behaving in a manner that is deemed ‘correct’ or ‘appropriate’
by society.
what is a code of ethics?
A business may have a Code of Ethics or a Code of Conduct.
A Code of Ethics provides written guidelines to its workers and management to help them conduct their actions in accordance with
the values and ethical standards of that business. In other words, it is detailing what is acceptable and unacceptable in the workplace.
what is an ethics committee and what do they do?
An ethics committee is a person or group of people appointed to ensure the Codes are upheld.
They:
* Collect & monitor info
- Develop policies & procedures
- Keep staff informed about ethical behaviors
- Ensure ethics training occurs regularly
- Enable employees to raise concerns about any values / principles
- Reward / recognize employees who uphold the Codes
when does unethical behavior become a concern
Unethical behavior can become a concern when dealing with employees.
when must a business be ethical?
A business must be ethical when:
* Employing or terminating staff
* Allocating tasks / duties
* Providing career development opportunities
* Completing performance reviews
* Dealing with privacy
* Dealing with issues of equal opportunity, discrimination, harassment, etc.
* Dealing with OH&S
