2.5 Bio 2 Study Guide Flashcards
Cohesion
H Bonding between H2O molecules. Water molecules stick to each other.
Adhesion
H Bonding between H2O and other substances. Water sticking to other substances.
Solvent
Solvents dissolve solutes creating solutions.
Specific Heat
The heat required to raise temperature of a substance by 1* Celcius.
Heat Vaporization
Water vaporizing from your own thermal energy.
Concentration
The amount of solute in a solution. EX: The amount of salt in a liquid. A substance becomes more concentrated when less water is present.
pH
Measures [H3O+] on a logarithmic scale
-log[H3O+]
pOH
Measures [OH-] on a logarithmic scale
-log[OH-]
Hydroxide ion
OH- ion - consists of one hydrogen and one oxygen
Hydronium ion
H30+ ion - consists of one oxygen and three hydrogen.
Acid + Base
Acid - H30 > OH
Base - H30 < OH
Neutral - H30 =
OH
