Euphony
A person who gives an account or tells the story of events, experiences, etc. This person may add spoken commentary to a film, program, etc.
Narrator
A figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance; a comparison not using the words like or as, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.”
Metaphor
The formation of a word, such as meow, honk, or boom, by imitation of a sound made by or associated with its referent.
Onomotopoeia
A device in a story by which an event or scene taking place before the present time in the story is inserted into the chronological structure of the work.
Flashback
A figurative description or illustration. The of the story made me feel the cold of Antarctica.
Imagery
A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction. For example: “Less is more,” “Proud to Be Humble” “Known Secret” “Organized Chaos”
Oxymoron
The language, especially the vocabulary, peculiar to a particular trade, profession, or group.
Jargon
To show or indicate beforehand; a hint of what is to come.
Foreshadowing
The substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt. “To pass away” seems nicer to say than “to die”.
Euphemism
Obvious send international exaggeration. “We waited an eternity to be dismissed for the banquet food.”
Hyperbole
To prevent the success of; frustrate; balk; to keep from succeeding in an enterprise.
