2.4 Metamorphic Rock Flashcards
Rocks that the structure, texture, or composition have changed.
Metamorphic Rock
When rock is heated by nearby magma, this rock forms
Contact Metamorphism
When pressure builds up in rock which is located under other rock formation, this rock forms.
Regional Metamorphism
When rock changes
Metamorphism
A mineral that forms at certain temperatures, that show temperature, depth, and pressure.
Index Minerals
The texture of metamorphic rock in which the mineral grains are arranged in planes or bands
Foliated
Rock formed by shale that is exposed to a lot of heat and pressure.
Slate
When slate is exposed to great heat and pressure, this forms.
Phyllite
When phyllite is exposed to a lot of heat and pressure, this rock forms.
Schist
The rock with the most heat and pressure, and seperates into distinct bands
Gneiss
Minerals that are not arranged into bands or planes
Nonfoliated
The process in which rock changed composition
Recrystalazation
A change in thee shape of a rock caused by a force placed on it.
Deformation
