2.4 Flashcards
A process in which the composition, texture, and structure of a rock has been changed
Metamorphism
The process in which magma comes directly in contact with a surrounding rock.
Contact Metamorphism
The process in which rock that is buried under other rock formations or when large pieces of the Earth’s crust collide with each other. .
Regional Metamorphism
Minerals that are used to estimate the temperature, depth, and pressure at which a rock undergoes metamorphism
Index Minerals
The texture of metamorphic rock in which the minerals are arranged in grains or bands
Foliated
A foliated metamorphic rock that comes from shale
Slate
What forms when slate is exposed to heat and pressure,
Phyllite
What forms when phyllite is exposed to heat and pressure.
Schist
What forms when heat separates minerals into distinct bands.
Gneiss
The texture of metamorphic rock which the minerals aren’t in planes or bands.
Nonfoliated
The process in which the metamorphic’s rock composition changes.
Recrystallization
A change in the shape of a rock caused by a force placed on it.
Deformation
