2.4 Flashcards
What is cell differentiation? (1)
It is the specialisation of cells in structure to carry out the role that it’ll carry out.
What is the advantage of cellular differentiation? (1)
(1) every cell is adapted to perform its function MORE EFFECTIVELY, so it allows cells to be MORE EFFICIENT
Explain how the 3 tissues in the stomach help it function. (6)
(1) muscle —> (4) churns & mixes the stomach contents
(2) epithelium —> (5) protects the stomach wall & produces secretions
(3) connective tissue —> (6) holds together other tissues (strength)
Explain how the 5 tissues in a leaf helps it to function. (10)
(1) PALISADE MESOPHYLL —> (6) carry out photosynthesis
(2) SPONGY MESOPHYLL —> (7) gaseous diffusion
(3) EPIDERMIS —> (8) protects the leaf & allows gaseous diffusion
(4) PHLOEM —> (9) transports organic materials away
(5) XYLEM —> (10) transports water & ions into the leaf
“Why is an artery described as an organ whereas a blood capillary isn’t?” (2)
(1) An artery is made up of more than 1 tissue,
(2) whereas a blood capillary is made up of only 1 tissue
