2.3 weak chemical bonds Flashcards
1
Q
the strongest bonds
A
covalent bonds
2
Q
what is the benefit of weak bonds
A
they separate easily
3
Q
how does a hydrogen bond form
A
hydrogen atom that is covalently bonded to 1 electronegative atom is attracted to another electronegative atom
(like water and nitrogen/ammonia)
4
Q
what are Vanderwaals interactions
A
electrons can sometimes accumulate in one area at any time by chance and create a charge.
so when atoms and molecules are very close together, it is possible for them to stick together
5
Q
how does a gecko walk up a wall
A
its feet have hairs that increase surface area
and the vanderwaals interactions is enough to keep the gecko up
