Principles of democracy
Human rights and equality
All individuals are valued equally and have equal opportunities
Rule of law
All individuals are equal before the law and are entitled to equal protection without discrimination
Free and fair elections
Elected representatives are chosen by the people in a free and fair manner without manipulation
Accountability/transparency
Elected an appointed officials are responsible for their actions and are accountable to the people
Citizenship participation
Citizens help to shape their government through civic engagement Example voting
Political tolerance
Respecting the rights and opinions of others, even when they differ from your own
Stability
Not likely to give away or overturn, predictable, and reliable
Change
To make different, replace something with something else
