Define “Time Since Death”
A
- aka Post-Mortem Interval
- Period that’s elapsed between death — actual performance of post-mortem exam

How is Time of Death, estimated?
A
- Degree / Distribution of Rigor, Livor + Algor Mortis
- Changes in skin / mucous membrane
- Degree / Distribution of Late-PM Changes
- Bladder Content and Gastric Emptying Time
- Entomology and Forensic Botany

Explain Gastric Emptying Time
A
- Depending on the last meal - it gives a good idea to estimate the time of death
- A light meal may take couple of hrs
- Whilst a heavy meal may take up-to 6h

Explain Bladder Content
A
- IF the body’s found to be warm + supple in the morning = indicator of a full bladder
- Hence time of death - approx. 1-2h
- IF body’s developed RIGOR BUT has a full bladder = person has died, the night before

A
- When foul smelling gases, from Putrefaction attract insects
- Formation of Maggots within 12 - 24h
