What is the World Wide Web?
WWW is a collection of multimedia web pages stored on a website, which uses the internet to access info from servers and other computers.
What is an URL?
Specifies the location of a webpage
What kind of protocol is used in WWW? What is it used for?
Hyper text Markup Language (HTML)
Used to design web pages and to write http protocol.
What is a web browser?
Software that connects to DNS to locate IP addresses.
What is the difference between WWW and the internet?
What are the requirements to connect a device to the internet?
- A device e.g a computer or cellphone to connect
- A router wireless or wired
- A web browser
- A telephone line/ mobile phone network connection
- An internet service provider (ISP)
What is the telephone network system called?
PTSN public switched telephone network
What is ptsn used for?
Used to connect computers/devices and LAN’s between cities
Telephone lines have changed from copper cables to fibre optic cables. Why?
Greater bandwidth and faster data transfer rates and less risk of corruption from interference
