1. User opens their web browser and types in a url and the web browser asks the DNS server 1 to find the IP address of the website
2. The DNS server cant find the url in its database and sends out request back to the DNS server 2
3. DNS server 2 finds the ip address sending back to the first DNS server which puts the url and its IP address into the database
4. IP address is sent back t the computer
5. Computer sets up a communication between the website server and the required pagesand so the web browser interprets the HTML and displays the info on the screen
