2.2 Nature of quantities Flashcards
What do vector quantities have?
Both direction and magnitude.
What do scalar quantities have?
Magnitude but not direction.
What are examples of vector quantities?
Displacement, force, acceleration, velocity, weight, momentum.
What are examples of scalar quantities?
Mass, speed, distance, time, temperature, density, energy, volume, power, potential difference.
What is the definition of mass?
The matter content of a body.
What is the definition of density?
Mass per unit volume.
What is the definition of volume?
Three-dimensional space occupied by a body.
What is the definition of distance?
Length from one point to another.
What is the definition of speed?
Distance travelled per unit time.
What is the definition of energy?
Work done.
What is the definition of power?
Energy converted or work done per unit time.
What is the definition of weight?
Force, acting downwards through a body, due to gravity.
What is the definition of pressure?
Force per unit area.
What is the definition of displacement?
Distance from a specific point, in a particular direction.
What is the definition of velocity?
Displacement per unit time.
