- ML Khalifat movement had collapsed by 1923.
- 1927 ML had to compromise their values (forfeiting separate electorates)
- ML Jiinah’s 14 points was rejected but Congress in 1929 and Muslim separatism began to develop.
- C Gandhi focuses on areas of India where he knew the campaigns would not fall to mobs.
- C Initial successes: students boycotted their exams, taxes were not paid, people stayed away form 1920 elections, around 200 lawyers stopped work.)
- February 1922, a mob of Congress supporters torched a police station, killing 22. Gandhi forced to withdraw the campaign.
- Gandhi was arrested and charged with promoting disaffection. He was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment.
- C 75,000 people attended the 1930 Salt Marches.

- ML began to form ideas for a separate Muslim State, no pressure for change just avoidant.
- C 1930 Salt Marches catalysed a second wave of Civil Disobedience led to Irwin Pact 1931 and London conferences.
