2.1.6 how organelles work together in cells Flashcards
step 1 for making/secreting a protein
the gene with coded instructions for the protein (housed on chromatin in nucleus) is transcribed into length of mRNA
step 2
many copies of mRNA are made & pass out of pores in nuclear envelope to ribosomes
step 3
at ribosomes, instructions are translated & the protein molecules are assembled
step 4
protein molecules pass into cisternae of RER & along these hollow sacs
step 5
vesicles w/ the protein inside are pinched off from RER & pass (via microtubules & motor proteins) to golgi apparatus
step 6
vesicles fuse with golgi apparatus, where the protein molecules may be modified for release
step 7
inside vesicles pinched off from golgi apparatus, molecules pass to plasma membrane
step 8
vesicles & plasma membrane fuse & protein released outside cell (exocytosis)
what type of process in exocytosis
active - requires energy
