2.1.3 Speed & Acceleration Flashcards
1
Q
How can light gates measure speed?
A
Records how long an objects takes to pass through.
- Length of a piece of card is measured with a ruler and attached to the trolley.
- Trolley is rolled down a ramp so the card passes the light gate.
2
Q
How to work out the speed of the trolley when it passes the gate?
A
v = x ÷ t
x: length of card
t: time taken for trolley to pass light gate.
3
Q
What are the two very useful equations needed to solve problems involving constant acceleration.
A
(Final Speed)^2 - (Initial Speed)^2 = 2 x acceleration x distance
v^2 - u^2 = 2as
Final Speed = Initial Speed + ( acceleration x time )
v = u + at
