How is Employment defined ?
The total number of the population of working age that have worked for at least one hour a week
How is Unemployment defined ?
The number of the working population who are willing to work but can’t find a job.
How is Economically Inactive defined ?
People who are not in employment and are unable to work.
How is the rate of Employment Calculated ?
(Number Employed/WAP) x 100
How is the rate of Unemployment Calculated ?
(Number Unemployed/Labour Force) x 100
How is the Labour Force Calculated ?
Number Employed + Number Unemployed
How is Not In Labour Force Calculated ?
WAP - Labour Force
How is Labour Force Participation Rate calculated ?
(Labour Force/ WAP) x 100
What are the two main measures of Unemployment ?
- International Labour Organisation Measure(ILO)
- Claimant Count (CC)
What is the Claimant Count ?
Measures the number of people claiming unemployment benefits such as Jobseekers Allowance and Universal Credit
What is the Labour Force Survey ?
A quarterly survey assessing household’s employment status
What is the Alternative Claimant Unemployment ?
Number of people under jobseeker’s allowance and Universal Credit
What is the timeframe for the ILO ?
Out of work for 4 weeks and ready to start within two weeks.
