2.1 speed, distance & time Flashcards
Speed
The rate at which an object covers distance, without considering it’s direction
Displacement
The overall change in position of an object in a specific direction
Velocity
Speed with direction, or how quickly displacement changes over time.
Acceleration
How quickly velocity changes over time, indication a speed increase or decrease in a particular direction.
what quantities are velocity and acceleration and why?
- vector quantities
- because they have both
magnitude and direction
Average speed
Total distance traveled /
total time it took
Instantaneous speed
Speed of an object at any specific moment.
What does s represent
displacement / m
what does u represent
initial velocity / m s-1
what does v represent
final velocity / m s-1
what does a represent
acceleration / m s-2
what does t represent
time / s
