2.1 Motion Flashcards
Distance & Displacement
Both measure how far something travels - displacement is direction in which it travelled
Velocity
Both speed and direction
Scale Quantities
Speed, Distance, Mass, Time - measured in time
Vector Quantities
Velocity, Force, Acceleration - measured in time and direction
Vectors
Can be positive and negative directions - Speed = distance divided by time
Acceleration
How fast your speeding up, change in velocity in a certain amount of time - acceleration = change in velocity divided by time - deceleration is just negative acceleration
Distance Time Graphs
Show motion of an object, how far something has travelled, gradient is rate of change - steep graph = rate of change of distance is bigger, curves show acceleration
Straight Line of a Distance Time Graph
Change vertically divided by change horizontally
Velocity Time Graphs
Finds acceleration, flat section = stable velocity and curve means changing acceleration, area under section of graph is equal to distance travelled in that time interval
Density =
Mass divided by volume
