2.1 - DNA the molecule (DNA AND GENETICS) Flashcards
What is complementry base pairing in DNA? Why does it happen?
Complementry base pairing is the characteristic in which the nitrogen rich bases (adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine) consistently pair up. This happens because the bases have different chemical structures and shapes that can only pair up in a certain way.
What are the complementry base pairs in DNA?
They are adenine and thymine (A-T), and guanine with cytosine (G-C).
What is 1 chromosome?
1 chromosome can either mean
* a chromosome that has not undergone replication yet (contains 1 chromatid),
* a chromosome that has been replicated (contains two joined chromatids).
Why are they both called 1 chromosome? Just because.
