Missing persons do not include who?
1) persons wanted for crimes, or
2) Persons wanted on warrants, or
3) Persons 18 years old or older, who have left home voluntarily because of domestic, financial or similar reasons
- They may be considered missing if the totality of the circumstances indicate they are missing
A Missing person is defined as a person missing from a New York City residents and what?
MISSING
M-Mentally or physically impaired the extent that hospitalization may be required
I-Is 65 years old or older
S-Senile retarded or disabled and not capable of self-care or clear communication
S-Suicide. indicated an intention of committing suicide
I-Involuntary. absence under circumstances indicating unaccountable or involuntary disappearance
N-Not 18. Under 18 years old
G-Gone swimming. Possible victim of drowning
When will the UMOS conduct an initial search of the building prior to taking any other action?
If the missing is…
- 65 years old or older
- Less than 10 years old
- Senile/disabled from a hospital/institution
Who can be the complainant for a missing?
- Member of family
- Legal or temporary guardian
- Board of Ed representative
- Hospital administrator
When is an immediate investigation and or search required for a missing?

I- Is 65 years of age or older
L-Less than 16,children under 16y/o
M- Mentally/physically impaired to the extent that hospitalization may be required
I- Involuntary, missing under circumstances indicating unaccountable or involuntary disappearance
S- Senile,retarded or disabled and not capable of self-care or clear communication
U- Unique/unusual cases
Swim- Gone swimming, possible drowning victim
When will you notify the precinct commander/duty captain in regards to a special category missing?
U SLIM
U- Unique/unusual case
S- Senile, retarded or disabled and not capable of self-care or clear communication
L- Less than 16, child under 16 y/o
I- Is 65 years of age or older
M- Mentally/physically impaired to the extent that hospitalization may be required
Who is responsible for directing, coordinating and controlling the search for a missing person less than 10 years of age?
The platoon Commander.
* If the platoon Cmdr. is unavailable, then the precinct commander/duty captain will perform the job.
BUT
If the platoon commander is not immediately available then the patrol supervisor/assigned detective will perform the job pending the arrival of the platoon commander, or if he/she is unavailable the precinct commander/duty captain.
