solid liquid and gas
a solid is a physical state with definite volume and shape. a liquid is a physical state with fixed volume but not size and shape. a gas is a physical state that stays in a container until the lid is removed.
atoms and molecules
atoms are made up of individual atoms while molecules are made up of groups of atoms
what is an element
a substance which consists of only one kind of atom
compound
a substance which consists of atoms of two or more different elements bound together
what is an atom
the smallest part of a substance which cant be broken down
what is a molecule
a group of two or more atoms held tgt are called molecules
steam and water vapour
steam is hot water in droplets almost big enought o see while water vapour is the gaseous phase of water
what is evaporation
loss of particles from the surface of a liquid due to diffusion (liquid to gas)
boiling
water into a vapour due to boiling
condensing
process where water vapour (gas) becomes a liquid
unicellular and multicellular
unicellular= made up of one type of cell
multicellular: made up of multiple cells
organisms and cells
living things are called organisms which are all made up of cells. cells are the smallest unit that carry out the functions of life
magnification
objective and eyepiece lens. multiplying the objective lens number will give u the magnification of the microscope
light and electron microscope
in an electron microscope, electron beams are used for magnifying while visible light is used for light microscopes. usually, electron microscopes are more useful.
eukaryote and prokaryote
prokaryote- unicellular cells that lack membrane bound structures
eukaryote- organisms whose cells have a nucleus and other organelles enclosed by a plasma membrane
