Describe one economic impact for the local area if there are fewer tourists
One economic impact for the local area if there are fewer tourists is a loss of income for local businesses. Shops, restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions may earn less money, which can lead to job losses and reduced investment in the community
Name one process of mechanical weathering that you have studied.
Freeze thaw action
Name and explain one process of mechanical weathering that you have studied.
Freeze thaw action
Freeze-thaw action occurs high up in mountainous areas where there is a lot of precipitation
Freeze-thaw occurs when water enters cracks in rocks during the day. At night, if the temperature drops below 0°C, the water freezes and expands by 9 percent , putting pressure on the rock. Over time, repeated freezing and thawing causes the rock to break apart which is called scree
Name a factory in your local area that you have studied
Rusal aughnish alumina
Name 2 inputs of Rusal
Bauxite
Caustic soda
2 process of rusal
Bauxite is crushed and mixed with caustic soda
And then heated
Outputs of rusal
Alumina powder
Waste
Describe a footloose industry
An industry that can be located at a wide variety of places without being tied to the factors of production.
Reasons why an area may be good for the location of a factory (4)
Availability of workers – A nearby population provides a supply of labour for the factory.(skilled workforce)
Good transport links – Easy access to roads, railways, ports, or airports makes it easier to bring in raw materials and deliver finished products
More space – There is often more room for building, future expansion, parking, and deliveries.
Cheaper land – Land is usually less expensive outside of towns, making it more affordable to build a large factory
State one reason why a multinational company would decide to move a factory from a developed country, like Ireland, to a developing country, like Vietnam.
One reason a multinational company might move a factory from a developed country like Ireland to a developing country like Vietnam is lower labour costs. Wages are often much cheaper in developing countries, which helps companies reduce production costs and increase profits.
Example of developing country?
Vietnam
How does this decision by the multinational company to move one of its factories to another country show that we live in a globalised and interconnected world?
This decision by the multinational company to move one of its factories to another country shows that we live in a globalised and interconnected world because it demonstrates how businesses can operate across many countries, moving resources, jobs, and production wherever it is most efficient. It shows that economies are linked, and decisions made in one country (like moving a factory) can have impacts on workers, communities, and trade in other parts of the world. Products made in one country are often sold globally, highlighting how countries rely on each other for goods, services, and employment.
Describe one reason why a coastel area would attract tourists.
One reason a coastal area would attract tourists is because of its opportunities for water recreational activities, such as swimming, surfing, and boating. These fun and exciting experiences make coastal areas popular holiday destinations.
Explain how longshore drift transports material along the coast.
- Waves approach and move up the shore at an angle (matching the direction of the prevailing wind).
When a wave breaks, the swash moves the load up the shore at an angle and deposits some material there, and so the material is moved along the shore. - The backwash carries material back down the shore. This movement follows the slope of the beach, and is usually in a straight line.
The process is repeated over and over, resulting in the gradual movement of material along the shore in a zigzag fashion .
Education for young people can impact on gender equality and life expectancy.
Explain how providing young people with education can have an impact on either gender equality or life expectancy.
Education also improves life expectancy by: Encouraging healthier lifestyles: Educated individuals are more likely to understand health information, avoid risky behavior, and seek medical help when needed.
Improving maternal and child health: Educated women are more likely to have fewer children Increasing income: With better education, people can get better jobs, afford healthcare, clean water, and better living conditions—all factors that lead to longer lives.
